Still a go for August 1st?

Is this group still a go for August 1st? I read the rest of the thread and couldn't tell if they got grouped in with everyone in September. I'll be traveling solo on a R1200GS and plan on making the trip around this time.

I am only aware of a one group leaving in September. 'Int' is coming with us now, not sure about jose-emilio-agote.

guide through China

Hi We are Janet and Chris from the UK. We are planning to drive to Australia in the latter part of this year in our Toyota Hilux. We are very interested in joining your group through China and maybe Burma, is this possible. Again we can accommodate a guide in our van. Can you tell us if it is possible and what we need to do Thanks

Permit/fee to cross wagah border with own vehicle?

Hi guys,
Does anybody know if there is a permit for your own vehicle needed when crossing the wagah border from pakistan into india?

The ministry of foreign affairs of germany mentiones on its homepage that one MIGHT need a permit for the own vehicle but nobody cited that in the forums.

Can anybody confirm that or is that not true? If YES, where and when do i have to obtain this permit?

Thanks mates!

Hey all:

I spoke to Kim about what to do with some information
I came up with - and I'll post here and see what everyone
thinks.

Here goes:

A couple of things that may be of interest:

1) I have 2 quotes from guide companies that are both
cheaper than the one from NAVO.

They are cheaper by about $50 - $170 per person.

They also include accommodation in those lower prices.

At $40 / night (4 nights) that is $200 - $300 cheaper per
person, based on 4 people. At 6 people it is even cheaper

2) I am interested in taking a side trip out to Shipton Arch,
which is apparently the worlds largest arch, about 40 km from
Kashgar for a day hike. This would be optional:

Tushuk Tash (Shipton's Arch) - Images

Shipton's Arch - Wiki

We can set up the same 5 day crossing, but do Shipton Arch
on one of the days - for about an additional $80 per person
(for 4 people). That is with a vehicle to take us there
and back.

Another thought was to camp there overnight, if it works.

3) As the group is getting pretty large (about 15+ at last
count) I would prefer a smaller group.

To break off a smaller group, we could either:

a) split some people into a different group. With
a different company and guide we would move faster
through the process - even on the same dates

b) do a group a few days, or even a week earlier
Options for that would be:
- 7 days earlier (c/w the same Thurs -> Mon)
- 4 days earlier (Mon -> Fri)

Let me know if any of this of interest...

Cheers !

Hi Everyone,

Those on the e-mail list should have received an email from me this morning with information on LOIs, Visas, Meeting Point, Cost and Payment. It's got some fairly important information so make sure it hasn't ended up in your junk.

Like I say in the email and as you can see above AccelRus is looking to arrange a second smaller group leaving around the same dates with another tour company, the price is cheaper and accommodation is already included. I appreciate that a lot of you have said you are 100% committed to the trip I am organising however if it turns out AccelRus's group or another group is more to your liking because of departure date, itinerary, cost or accommodation preference then please feel free to join the group that suits you better. No one needs to commit 100% to my group until we need to pay the deposit so take your time in choosing. I am sure we will have enough people to run this trip so don’t feel you have to stick with this group out of loyalty.

Bit of an update... Been swamped with life stuff, but here
is what I know now.

There are now 6 people considering going a week earlier,
so things are shaping up nicely.

Back and forth with a couple of agencies confirming everything
and it looks like this group will fly.

Cost is going to be approx: $1,146 USD / 7044 CNY

That may vary depending on the exact locations we stay at,
type of accommodation, side trips, etc.

The cost includes all the document/license/insurance/inspection
/customs/border/guide transport and meals, etc as well as
accommodations for guide and travelers.

Cheers !

Hi All,

I appreciate I'm late to the party but have read the entire thread so have a feel for the general plans that have been made.

I'm planning a UK - Vietnam ride May 15 - October 15.

My current plan is to transit China c. 1 August coming from Irkeshtam.
I don't want to poach people from groups that have already been formed but do let me know if people are interested in teaming up for the start of August for the stretch through to Islamabad?

Couple of questions I'd really appreciate help with:

1. Security on the KKH in Pakistan. Can't find much up to date info on here about the situation. What's the general feel/good sources of info?
Are you guys planning on having a guide in Pakistan? Usually relatively relaxed on this stuff but doesn't appear the safest part of the world currently.

2. No doubt this has been tried before but anything to stop you packing your bike onto a local truck and then travelling across China like that? I want to ride the whole thing but if this avoids costs then I'd be happy to do it.

I'll be on a limited budget and keen to get through China and down to India in pretty quick time.
First trip out east but did a UK - South Africa drive a couple of years back so not totally green.

Thanks in advance.
