Update
Hi everyone I have just had the 2015 prices through from NAVO so I think we are in a position to start setting some dates.
Dates
Group closure date 28th of February, while it will be technically possible to make changes after this date form my own sanity it would be good if we had a firm yes from everyone by this date.
50% deposit paid to me before the 1st of May, NAVAO have asked that the payment comes to them as one payment.
50% balance paid to me before the 1st of August
Enter China 3rd September, this date has been chosen to ensure we get to border crossings on days they are open.
Enter Pakistan on the 7th of September
Costs (assuming a group over 4)
Rider with bike CYN 7900 each (around £845 on 26/01/15)
Extra rider (sharing bike) CYN 1100
Pillion Passenger 500 CYN
I am happy with these costs and the service I have got from NAVO so am not looking into any other options.
If you need a cheaper option then I would suggest putting another group together and looking at other companies offering similar tours.
After some discussion the trip I am booking will have a NAVO car with it the whole time, if you want to join with your own car then I think it would be a great help to have an extra car but it won't change the price.
Itinerary
1 Tourgart/Irkeshtam(Entry)-Kashgar* Kashgar 170km 4h Deal with all procedure at the border with the help of the guide, then go to Kashgar
2 Kashgar Kashgar Deal with the remaining procedures in the local Traffic Administration Office in the morning, get your Chinese temporary driver license and vehicle plate etc, if you still have some time in the afternoon, you can visit: Old Kashgar City, Sunday Market & Livestock Market; Id Kah Mosque;Abakh Hoja Tomb etc if you are interested in.
3 Kashgar - Karakuli Lake Karakuli Lake 210km 4.5h Heading to Karakuli Lake and stay overnight there with tranquil Lake
4 Karakuli Lake - Tashkorgan Tashkorgan 110km 2.5h Take some time staying in Karakuli rippling the beautiful snow mountain reflection, after that, drive to Tashkorgan, the ruins of a huge mud-brick fort still stand on the edge of town, and although estimated to be about 600 years old, local lore says Tashkurgan has been a citadel for over 2300 years. Also, you can enjoy beautiful scenery of Pamirs here. The Greek philosopher-scientist Ptolemy (AD 90–168) mentioned Tashkurgan in his Guide to Geography as a stop on the road to China. The Chinese Buddhist pilgrim Xuan Zang wrote about the fortress in the 7th century, when it was the furthest frontier outpost of the Tang dynasty.
5 Tashkorgan - Kunjerab Pass (Eixt) 130km 3h In the morning, drive to Kunjerab and deal with the exit procedure, then leave China for Parkistan.
(Neil has suggested we ask about adding an extra day to the to the trip so we have time to do the site seeing in Kashgar, with a large group there may not be time after all the paperwork, this would put the price up a little. if the majority of the group are interested then I will ask for a price. )
Included
Permits for Self-driving group
All the Permits needed.
Entry and exit process
CIQ(China Inspection and Quarantine) and customs clearance for your vehicles at the enter/exit border
Cost for vehicles
Temporary Chinese number plate and insurance for vehicles etc. (the third party insurance which is also called the The Traffic Accident Liability Compulsory Insurance)
Cost for riders/drivers
Temporary Chinese driver license for the riders or drivers.
Cost for the escort car
The rent, fuel, road toll, driver, traffic accident compensation, repairing cost, spare part and parking for the escort car.
Customs deposit of your vehicles
We bear it all for you.

Tour organization, documents translation, forms making, permits application and other preparation by NAVO;
The accomodations & meals for the guide and driver during the trip.
Local group accident insurance for guests, guide and driver.
Not Included
Accommodations and meals of yourselves
As the guests may have different preferences on accommodations and meals, so it is much more flexible to let the guests to choose where to stay and eat on the journey, so the guests' accommodations & meals are not included in my quote.(normally, it costs you around CNY 300 per day for the Acommodations and meals in China)
All the entrance tickets
You may choose the sights or scenic spots you like, and pay it when you visit;
Your vehilces cost on road
The fuel, road toll, repairing costs, spare part and parking of your own vehicles;
Tips
optional: If guests are satisfied with the tour, we suggest a group give guide tips about 100RMB-200RMB per day;
Personal expense
Drinks, souvenirs, and other personal consumptions.
Visas
NAVO can provide LOI and itineraries for visa application. The have also given me some advice on successfully applying for visa which I will either e-mail or PM to you each.
Meeting Point
I haven't really thought about this yet, does anyone have any suggestions?
Somewhere a few hours drive from the border would be good. Looking at a map At-Bashi, looks like the closest town which is 156k away.

I know I'm a bit late for this but...
Solo rider from UK. Suzuki DR 650. Some riding in India and plenty off off road experience. A doctor if that helps.
Might there be a space for me?

This point was raised before, perhaps it would be more efficient to split the group in two? Even with last minute drop outs/add ons, we're looking at a group of atleast 10 bikes - that's a sizeable convoy. I think i read somewhere that any given stop, at a minumum, is 15min + 5 min per bike, so that's 75min per stop.
Kim, you reported that the price doesnt decrease after 4 persons/bikes, but does the price increase if a second group is created? Any indication if NAVO has the capacity to support a second group?
As an expression of interest, if the price remains the same, would anyone be interested in splitting the group? I don't mind becoming the POC. I intend on spending a few weeks hiking in nepal, perhaps if there are any other keen hikers we can band together (everest base camp anyone?)?

Hi Kim,
All looks great. Myself and Nat are in (one bike / one rider).
Thanks for your work to date, and let me know if there's anything I can do.
Cheers, Taylor.

K3nny, I'm not a keen hiker but I'm keen to hike in Nepal, have done previous treks in the Himalayas. Everest base camp, isn't it possible to ride there now?
For a break away group are you suggesting a different date or two groups same day?

I really do hope that I can get issued a 6mth valid visa from Pak HC here in Aus, or Ill be pushing shit uphill when on the road. I don't intend on mentioning motorbiking, but how is everyone approaching their itineraries? Just main 'safe' locations and dates, no mention of mode of transport? I'm guessing omit Gilgit, just list as a couple of days in Islamabad/Rawalpindi and Lahore? Do they require hotel bookings or flight confirmations?
I know Iran also requires an LOI, so Ill be going through an agent, but does Uzbekistan?

Hi Everyone
After a bit of discussion between NAVO, my self and K3nny we have decided to stick together and go as one big group.
Navo have experience with large groups and they reckon registration won't be too much hassle as they will be less thorough if there are so many of us.
I think I have everyones e-mail address now so I will send everyone some information I have received from NAVO about visas for China.
Very excited now!!
