Inspiring, Informing & Connecting
Some people value Horizons Unlimited events for what they learn from the unique line-up of presenters. Some people value the chance to discover new products and services at the trade stands. Some people value just kicking back with a beer among old friends and new.
Most people enjoy a little bit of everything, and everyone goes home fired-up for adventure with a smile on their face.
The event will include a packed schedule of presentations and activities. All within the relaxed and friendly atmosphere that Horizons Unlimited is known for.

There is excellent riding in the area for you to take at your leisure. Come early and make it a great weekend! We recommend riding in on Thursday and leaving on Sunday, and participating fully in the activities in between to make the most of your HU experience.

Annette, Sam Manicom and Robert Stransky at HU Virginia

HU Ontario skills challenge, by Adam Chandler
Whatever your past experience has been or your future plans may be, there will something for everyone.
The schedule will be posted approximately 1 week before the event.
PLEASE NOTE: The schedule is subject to change at any time - all the presenters are volunteers and travelling, thus they may be delayed or unable to get there. Some may have anxiety attacks and be unable to perform! ;-) And sometimes travellers show up unexpectedly with great pics and stories, so we try to fit them in! The up-to-date schedule will be posted at the event.

Elijah Hunt
Trans American Trail /
Connecting with Nature |
ELIJAH HUNT is a young adventurer, having done the Trans American Trail at age 21, and planning to do it again in 2026 at 23. He has ridden in over 20 states and done multiple BDRs. He has a passion for adventure riding and hard enduro on a budget!
1. Trans American Trail
How I completed the Trans American Trail at 21.
If you're a minimalist, then this presentation is for you. Walk with me as I discuss budget, supplies, and the equipment that made traveling the Trans American Trail a reality for me. In addition to the TAT, I visited 10 national parks and rode parts of seven BDRs. I'll tell stories about what made the trip for me and the logistics that brought it together.

2. Connecting with Nature
Lessons learned through motorcycling, hiking, and camping in the lower 48 states.
Traveling alone at 21 though the States, I set out to discover the world. Come with me as I reflect on the tips and tricks I learned while on the road for 70 days. In addition to survivalist skills, reflect with me on nature and the built environment. Inspired by the mountains, I began researching the ethics of outdoor recreation and impact we have at large. Become a philosopher with me as I delve deep into the meaning and purpose of why I would set out on trip like this. Learn more about the importance of travel and how best to prepare mentally for a trip of this sort.

Motobaking: A Delicious Art & Science
An introduction to understanding and mastering proper baking while traveling |
"Motobaker" Alex will once again share his dual passions of baking and motorcycle travel to introduce fellow travelers to the joy, satisfaction and delicious possibilities of baking while traveling. Covering a range of equipment options, basic theory of successful motobaking and practical tips and tricks to ensure consistently delectable results while on the road. Whether you have the desire to bake everyday or just once in a while, these are game changing skills to add to your arsenal and require less dedicated equipment than you might think!
A practical demonstration of various setups from the field expedient to the more elaborate, with tasty, freshly baked treats to sample, this presentation will definitely leave you wanting more! Bring an appetite, questions, and ideas of what you'd like to bake!

ALEX REPONEN is a relative newcomer to motorcycling (approx. 12 years), but is a professional baker and seasoned international traveler. Having swerved from his previous career as a CIA officer overseas, he now satisfies both his passions by "motobaking" whenever possible; baking off the back of his motorcycle!
LOTS of presentations to come! As people register to present we'll list them here.
How about you? We're all here to learn, and there's LOTS to learn! We want to do more presentations and seminars, but we need volunteers to give them! Any topic you can contribute having to do with motorcycle travel, maintenance, planning, etc., lasting 30-60 minutes, would be great. Please contact us here to volunteer.
We'll also need volunteers to help us run the meeting. Areas of need include: pre-meeting setup; registration/check-in area; audio/video setup; computer/IT issues; general "go-fer" assistance; post-meeting packing and cleaning up.

Life on a Bike - 6 years on the road! |
2UP traveling on a 32 year old bike through all South American countries and north through Central America to USA & Canada.

Road works in Colombia
"In 1997 we left on a 1981 BMW R80 G/S for an 18 month trip around the world and were away 4 years 2 months & 17 days through 57 countries & 200,000 kms. We sold everything and set off again in 2007 for our 2nd RTW. So far we have spent 3 years in South & Central America & this is our 3rd summer in North America. Next year we will be heading to South Korea, Japan, Russia, Mongolia and Europe. Now our life is on the bike."

Adventure Touring in Scandinavia |
Europe's best adventure touring happens in the north: Sweden, Norway, Finland!
The Scandinavian countries have a long heritage of outdoor live, both winter and summmer. Besides being (in contrast to central Europe) sparsely populated there is an ages old right still in force today, which give you the right to camp basically whereever you like. Just throw your tent on your bike, ride for some hours and find a nice spot in the forest at a quiet lake to enjoy a good meal at the campfire.

Kai-Uwe Och is 44 years old, has always been interesting in outdoor live, but mostly travelling by bicyle for many years. Took motorcycle license in 2008 and continues to travel same style as before, just longer distances!

Through Dust and Darkness - KLR through Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. |
Jeremy Kroeker has traveled to over 30 countries with his motorcycle and done at least one outrageously stupid thing in every one. One October, he rode from Canada to Panama in an attempt to flee the pain of a broken relationship. Motorcycle Therapy - A Canadian Adventure in Central America tells his story of personal discovery, friendship and reconciliation that occurs along the way.

More recently, Jeremy rode from Germany through the Middle East into Iran, and finally through North Africa before returning to Europe. His second book, Through Dust and Darkness, is coming Fall 2013.

The Alps beyond Alpine roads. There is more to the European Alps than the pass roads. |
The Alps, running from Slovenia to France, are widely thought to be the best motorcycle roads in the world. Every year many thousands of riders make the pilgrimage to test themselves in the high passes. The Alps, however, also embody a complex mix of history and cultures which can enrich a motorcycle adventure.

This presentation takes a look at these wonderful motorcycle roads through a selection of historical events and cultural features.
Mike and Jo Hannan have spent three seasons riding the high roads and their second travel book "High Road Rider - mountains, motorcycles and myths" will be published by New Holland early in 2014.

Azure O'Neill (USA) and Noel Bremmers (Netherlands)
Two Up or Two Bikes - The pros and cons of riding two up and riding with two bikes |
"When Azure and I met in Australia, I adjusted the Honda Africa Twin to fit two on one bike. While we fell in love, Azure fell in love with riding, as well. Upon arriving in the USA, she took riding lessons and got her license. On our way up to Canada we miraculously ran into her Honda Transalp. It was love at first sight. Now we travel with two bikes. Double the fun but also double the maintenance. We hope our experiences can help other riders make the decisions that are right for them."

Azure O'Neil left the lobbying world of Washington, DC to pursue her dream to travel the world. Along the way, she met a Dutchman doing the same thing, but on an Africa Twin and was inspired to get her own bike. Now, she and the Dutchman are riding around North America with their sights set on South America and beyond... destination unknown!

George Parker, USA
Your Bike, Your Dreams, My Travels... |
Alaska / Points Between: Slides, Stories, How To Discussion for Novice Travelers
George has been long distance riding since 1970; his longest trip: VA. to Artic Circle via west and northwest, 13,082 miles.

"I will use slides and stories of some of my trips over the last 40 years to discuss prep and travel in North America and how the novice traveler can accomplish their dream trip. Many riders are hesitant to take a long trip because they lack confidence and/or feel they don't have the gear or bike for distance travel. Emphasis will be on the trip, how to use existing bike and gear, and how to gain confidence to ride anywhere. Discussion will center on how to plan, execute, and accomplish the trip from the novice distance traveler's perspective. Points of discussion will also include: expenses, route planning, camping vs. lodging, repairs, journals, and importantly for the novice, 'distance is relative'."

Facilities for a Fantastic Weekend!
We are excited to start a new Travellers Meeting at 4-H Camp Bristol Hills near Canandaigua, New York. The Camp is located on a hillside with a western view, so it’ll be easy to relax and watch the sunsets from your tent or just sitting on the grass.

This part of NY features rolling farmland and countryside, lush forests, and scenic, two-lane roads with minimal traffic. The area is a mostly rural landscape, dotted with small towns, and shaped by history. When you're not sharing stories and travel tips with your new friends, you'll enjoy great riding and plenty to see and do.

Accommodation on site
Camp Bristol Hills offers two flat and grassy areas for tent camping with bathhouses nearby; rustic cabins of varying sizes with electricity and with bathhouses nearby; and spaces without hookups for RVs. You are responsible for providing linens – sheets, blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, towels, etc. – for all accommodations.

Tent Camping
Tent space is divided into two grassy areas on either side of the entrance road. You can park your bike near your tent, but be sure there’s enough room for others to maneuver. There is a large bathhouse in easy walking distance from the tent area.
Please adhere to QUIET CAMPING practices in the tent area — no loud parties, late night gab sessions, or bright lights from 10:00 pm - 6:00 am.
All campers are advised to use best practices regarding the storage and disposal of food near their tents and cabins. We are staying in an area with the possibility of animals looking for food.
Fires are allowed only in the camp fire ring and under direction by staff. Camping stoves are permitted at your tent site but not inside any buildings. Smoking is not allowed in any camp building.
Cabins
There are numerous cabins throughout the camp, and we will be designating them for either men or women only. They have mostly bunk beds with a few single beds scattered among them, and total capacities run from four to ten or so people each using only the lower and single beds.

Cayuga cabin, one of many onsite

Cayuga interior, typical of all cabins, though they vary by size.
NOTE: the buildings are unheated, (though the main presentation lodges have fireplaces), so make sure to bring what you need in case it gets cold at night.
RV Parking
There are multiple spaces available but they do not have electric or water hookups.
Showers & Toilets
There are three bathhouses used by all attendees. All three have separate sides for men and women.

Family Bath house, the largest of the three bathhouses at the camp.

Sink area in the bathhouse.
Meals
Meals are NOT included with your registration fee. You have several choices regarding meals. Complete meal packages are either 8 meals (if eating onsite Thursday dinner -- Sunday breakfast) or 5 meals (if eating Friday dinner -- Sunday breakfast). Partial meal packages leave lunch up to you, and may make sense if you're planning on a ride-out on Friday or Saturday. If you do not purchase a meal plan, you MIGHT be able to purchase individual meals onsite, but we cannot guarantee we will have extras.
For lunches and dinners with two entrees, you will have a choice – e.g. burgers OR chicken salad sub. There will be signage to help you navigate. You’ll be issued meal tickets matching your registration selection, and you will be asked to surrender the appropriate ticket at each meal. NOTE: once you receive your meal tickets, treat them like cash. If you lose them, they will NOT be replaced.
Those with special dietary needs – vegetarian, gluten-free, etc. – should be sure to note that on your registration, and the kitchen staff will do their best to meet your needs. When you line up for meals, let the kitchen staff know your name and that there should be a meal for you, and they'll take it from there.
