Exclamation Motorcycle shipping from Brisbane to Chile and back.

Trying to find a solution to ship a bike from Brisbane to Chile early November 24 and back to Australia late Dec 24/early Jan 25. Have given up trying to contact Bikes Abroad, and no luck with 2 other recommended options based in Brisbane. Definitely want to air freight on the way over but open to sea freight on the way back to save a few dollars. Full round trip by air preferably though.
Anyone shipped this route recently? Experience and recommendations appreciated! Idea of cost please?

Greetings Wanderw

I don't have any recent experience with Oz to Chile shipping but I'm surprised about Bikes Abroad, as I've had good experiences with them. I just had a look at their website and I notice some missing names, it might be that Covid has claimed another business.

I am curious about one part of your post, the way I read it is that you will only be in South America for 8-10 weeks'ish. Is that correct?

Shipping won't be cheap, as an option to shipping your Oz bike have you looked at renting/buying a bike over there?. It would depend on what sort of trip you had planned, what countries you want to visit etc. I understand why you would like to have your own bike but depending on the shipping costs it might an option. You could try the HU communities and see if someone from Santiago might have some info.

I know why you want to fly the bike into Chile, I looked into that option on my trip but I was quoted a stupid price (not Bikes Abroad). I ended up sending it by ship to Valparaiso. A couple of locals (Martina & Enzo) have a business helping people get their bikes/cars through customs and they have a hostel for people to stay as well. I'll dig up an email and see if they have handled any imports from Australia recently and get back to you.

Try calling Colless Young in Brisbane - we used them to ship from Colombia to Australia and back and they did a great job.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
