Chile - Replacement Temo Import Permit needed

Hi Folks,

I'm in Chile and need a replacement Temporary Import Permit - the original got stolen along with a bunch of other stuff. Has anyone gone through the process of getting a replacement TIP, or indeed leaving the country without one?

Grateful for any advice.

Hi El Forko

I dont really know what is procedure for recover the TIP. official is TITV (Título de Importación Temporal de Vehículo)

But if you was robed you must go to Carabineros and left one notification where you declare you lost a lot of stuff and one of them was the TIP.

Bc when you have to pass by aduana again they check the paper of carabineros and check u date on entry at you passport.

With the carabineros's paper is the only way in Aduana they going to believe u.

I found the answer to my own question in the end. Thought I'd post in case anyone else has the same situation.

Turned out to be very straight forward. I went to the aduana office in Osorno where I happened to be, explained my situation and 15 minutes later walked out with a duplicate. I didn't even have to produce my vehicle docs or police report, but that may have been down to the very laid back chap in that particular office. I've had a few reasons now to sample Chilean bureaucracy and would guess other aduana offices may want to see both docs.

I seen a number of aduana offices in various towns, so if you have a chance, find a small quiet one and avoid the queues.

Don't know if you could do this at the Aduana at a border crossing - didn't want to try it and get turned back.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
