Mongolia Road condition August 2014
G'day guys,
Has anyone passed through Mongolia recently and have anything to report?
I have had one source tell me that that the road from Tsetserleg to Tsagaannuur was in a bad way. and not to even consider the northern route as its even worse..
I havnt been able to find any other information!!
Right now im looking at leaving UB on the 16th of august. So any suggestion would be grand!

Hi,
Went through that route about two weeks ago and rode from Tashenta to UB in six days. The three of us were on a 12gs, X Country and KLR. No serious road probems as it was dry. There was some heavy rain about three weeks earlier so the rivers were high but those we met at the Oasis in late July reported that the Northern and Southern routes were also quite doable. The middle route has some new paved road from Ulangom that is nice, but then you won't find paving until east of Tashir. Lots of road construction that could be knarly if wet. Two water crossings where the water was up to the axle and one where it was near the top of the wheel. On that one we pushed the bikes across.
Hope this helps!
Have fun,
Paul

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
