Big Dog ADV Ride 2017

BIG DOG RISES FROM THE ASHES LIKE A PHOENIX – August 7-10, 2017, North America

As the mythological phoenix rose from the ashes, the legendary Annual Running of the Dogs (aka BIG DOG ADVENTURE RIDE) has arisen and been announced for August 7-10 to take place in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. In 2015 the last Big Dog Adventure Ride happened, therefore there was no event in 2016. However, the popularity of the event pushed for one more last, themed "Dogs Phoenix-like Rising From The Ashes," (or The Transcendental After-The-Last).

Invitations for fraternity veterans and newbie entrants can be requested at Big Dog Adventure Central bigdogbmw@yahoo.com . A wannabe 2017 Big Dog is advised to review the history of the BIG DOG at https://horizonsunlimited.com/bigdog before requesting an Invitation to join this prestigious event. There have been some changes made for 2017, including adding a “Pavement Pounder Class” for those adventurers who have learned to keep their 600 lb. blinged and farkled ADV motorcycle happy and upright off-gravel.

Big dog invitations 2017

BIG DOG CENTRAL has advised that Invitations to 27th Annual Running of the Dogs are going out soon. 640cc and larger displacement entrants.

Two "odd" entrants slated for Aug 7-10: 1971 R75/5 with Russian sidecar, and another entrant who used a Victory one year is proposing to enter his new Indian Chieftain, with pretty brown leather saddle bags.

Invitee Paul Blignaut, owner/operator of GS Africa GS Africa – Motorbike Rentals | Motorbike Tours | BMW | Harley Davidson| South Africa from Cape Town, South Africa is begging, borrowing, renting or buying a cheap R65 or larger model to give/throw away after the event. New class for older (wiser?) Dogs to add larger sections of pavement for heavyweight models fraternal members are tired of picking up when their motorcycles fall over in gravel, mud, grass, motel parking lots or at gas stations.

Paparazzi Secret: Publisher/Editor of CITY BIKE Magazine is being sponsored by Aerostich Aero Home :: Aerostich Motorcycle Jackets, Suits, Clothing, & Gear

Wannabe "new" Dogs should seek veteran Dog for recommendations.

Fraternity is seeking an entrant with prototype airhead similar to that used by Walter Zeller in the 1951 September 18-23 International Six Day Trials (Italy). See photo.

Little Dogs?

Invitations are "in the mail." Several "new Dogs" have applied. If wanting an Invitation, space is limited, but there are always a few glitches like job requirements, bashed motorbike, severe fear or 'bike sold.' Central has advised that new fraternity members might be accepted at this late date.

Reminded was one Veteran Big Dog, while looking at the below BMW, "It's gotta be 640cc or more to run with the Dogs, but we might be fooled into thinking this was a prototype if you stickered it with 650cc badges."

THE LOST MAN symposium of MOTORCYCLE TRAVELING THE WORLD WITH A 21st CENTURY UGLY AMERICAN, adventure tales of a fictitious wannabe adventurer whose fear and paranoia caused him to be a complete failure at adventure motorcycling, with solicitations from the audience for contributions towards eventual novel, a collection of ugly American character tales.

At the link Great Around The World Motorcycle Adventure Rally some of the sordid tale is told, and it’s free, free, free!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
