Chile/Argentina- Need moto to buy in late February for 2 US nationals

We are two US riders planning to visit Chile/Argentina in late February 2023.
We are thinking to buy something and then riding the continent in batches (two or more weeks each time) across different countries through 2023.
Any engine size 300cc and above would be ideal.
We can go to either country depending on where the bikes are.

What is easiest to do for US nationals regarding buying a bike and crossing borders? I have read that buying US plates would be easiest but is that true?

Thanks in advance for any leads and advice.

Us plated bikes are good as long as you can change owner remote. There is help to get and depends an state. And it us not for free. Poder is an alternative. But has disadvanteges

Colombian plated bikes are superior. You can enter and exitvas you want. But the new owner has to register himself in person at an office in Colombia. For example, they take fingerprints,

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
