I spoke with the embassy in London a week ago and they said only in and out by air.
I asked about going in by air and leaving via land border and the answer was "not allowed, forbidden".Then they hung up on me. Nice!

Things may have changed, but I doubt any overland travel with a vehicle is possible at all, otherwise I presume HUBB would be now reaching its peak of visitors and the South East Asia subforum would be boiling.

That said, the trend has been pretty astonishing, from the perspective of someone whose been visiting there for over 20 years.
If you go remember that prices have exploded for lodging, electric is nearly non-existent, and that transportation is somewhere between the worst of India and the best of India.
A fantastic place.

Genghis, I'd be really happy to see open borders, if not for vehicles, at least for "walking" (not flying in&out) tourists, but I'm not sure if I understand your post: it's possible to cross to stay and visit the country?? If that's the case, sorry if my old info misled about the current situation. Or just to renew the Thai visa? (=in real terms, no land border crossing yet).
You are in the right place to have 1st hand info, so really appreciated.

Premise: Embassies and Consulates (especially if far away) are not really to be trusted. Even if it seems impossible, the guy in London may not be officially informed of some changes and just learn them by chance. It sounds impossible, but it is. Of course, the people in the Embassy in BKK issuing visas for sure will know it, but London may not be the case. HOWEVER, as Bertrand says, this would be a too big change for them to miss it. So, probably, not yet. But then again, it's first hand info that really matters.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
