help Carnet du passsge India

Hello everybody!

My friend and I we are planning to go from India to Europe on a motorbike.

We will flight to New Delhi 3rd of Febrary and we want to buy a bike there and drive to Spain.

After research some information, we have seen that the big problem is to get a Carnet du Passage in India because it seems compulsory in Pakistan and Iran. Other pappers like insurances or visas seems easier and cheaper. So that is my question:

how much and where I should buy or try to get my Carnet du Passage, knowing that we will buy around 400-500$ motorbike?

I just found a couple of agency-shops wich helps you and even sell the bike. I don't know.

I didn't get it. With the carnet du passage is just for Iran and Pakistan so as far as I cross to europe, Indian people will give me back my deposit. Am I right?

Do you offer to drive back what? my indian motorbike?

I also return bikes for free from India or wherever and I even pay the owner of the bike hahahaha.

Welcome to the HUBB, I hope you weren't put off by the lack of response other than the useless reply you received, which has since been erased. I'll just have to be rather blunt as to why you haven't received any answers to your question

People often turn up here and ask more or less the same thing that you did, you would really benefit from using the search function in the box at the top of the page.
I would love to be proven wrong but at the moment there doesn't seem to be any organization in India that is able to issue a carnet, buying a bike and putting the documents in your own name probably depends on having a work or residence visa, it seems to have once been possible to get a carnet from ADAC in Germany and it may be worth sending them an email
Failing that you could also simply try to truck your bike across pakistan and Iran, ( someone here managed to ride back to europe without a carnet by doing this, but it was over a decade ago) .... As I said, I'm not saying that it's impossible: if you do find a way then please report back as many of us would like to do what you're proposing. All the best. DM

Paper work wise it is easier to go from Europe to India. You also go from expensive to cheap (better for budgeting) and from well behaved traffic to worse traffic behaviour (to western eyes).
Any reason not to go the other way?

"under no circumstances can a carnet be issued outside India for a vehicle purchased in India bearing Indian registration plates."

Regarding Enfields and riding one home (wherever that may be) from India - just go to Nepal, it is perfectly legal to buy a bike and get a carnet for a Nepalese Enfield. They are somewhat more expensive in Nepal, but at least it's legally possible.

Just read the whole thing .. that will get you some understanding.

If your read all the blue bar thingys .. it will answer questions you have not thought of yet... they are there to provide that information without answering it for each newly arrived person individually, saving a lot of work.

thanks you very much. That was very interesting information, some solutions and some other options.
I go to India to try and if is not possible I will probably go to Nepal. I will share with you if I find a way.

Many people buy bikes in India .. but the don't leave India/Nepal ... they resell before they leave. There are some exceptions .. but most of these are very old.

There is a lot of information in those blue bar thingys. There is also a lot in the trip reports ... Sorry to give you so much reading ... but it does inform.

By universal agreement and from personal experience,riding/driving standards in india are far worse than any European country.
