No used motorbike import in Uruguay or Argentina??

Hi Guys,

We were planning to ship our 2 bikes by Airfreight from Belgium to Montevideo. The company told us recently this was not possible, because Uruguay doesn't allow an import of used motorbikes in their country. After that the company told us it was almost the same for Argentina. Someone has any additionnal information about this rules or laws from these countries?

Our plan is to arrive in Uruguay or Argentina and leave South America with our bikes from Bogotà. So we will go for temporary import.

Many thanks in advance,

aasman

P.S.: Airfreight company is APA Air (Belgium).

Hola

Clearly the freight forwarders you are asking don’t know anything about how to ship a bike for tourism purposes, many countries in South America have restrictions but are for permanent imports. We recommend you to run-away of people who don’t understand what you need and don’t have ascertainable experience on overland vehicles freight.

I just replied your private email, but think is better to also do it here for others in same predicament…

Hope to see you finally here
Regards

Hola
we have a good experience for many years in sending bikes to South America. It is definitely possible to send the bikes to South America, we have hundreds of them going to this continent. If you're interested let me know for further discussion

best regards
Olaf

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
