Travel insurance, visas?
Hi i'm kind of new in this part of travelling when it comes to paperwork and all of that afterall i am seventeen..
What i've heard is there a speciell kind of insurance, travell insurance.
Is that just for the bike or for me as well? What's the diffrence between the normal insurance?
And those visas, how hard is it to get one of those if you for example want to travel to Russia which i know require a visa. And how expensive is it?
This is only my second thread so be nice please

Well, I think that´s a very good age to start travelling!
Travel insurance is for yourself, in case you get sick, or have some accident, that requires medical care. Serious cases can become very, VERY expensive, especially, if an ambulance flight is required to transport you home or somewhere, where adequate treatment is possible to get (such a flight can easily cost 100.000 euros or more!) Travel insurance is also for your belongings, that you carry with you on your trip. Make sure you get a travel insurance, that covers all medical emergencies and ambulance flights without a cost limit, and also that it is valid, when you´re riding a motorcycle of the engine size, that you´ll ride. (Read the small print in your policy carefully!)
For your bike you will need a separate motor vehicle insurance. Minimum requirement by law in many countries is “third party”, means it´ll pay the others for their damage, in case you are the guilty party. But it does not pay anything to you, if your bike is damaged, or if it gets stolen (comprehensive insurance, yet another policy, is for those cases). In more remote countries, your vehicle insurance, that you have back home, will not usually be valid, so then you need to buy a 3rd party insurance at the border. Good to keep in mind those are often very limited, and may not help you much in case of a serious accident. But in that situation it is still probably better to have an insurance, than not.

The need for visas depend on your own citizenship (passport) and the country you wish to enter.
For Russia, again it depends on your citizenship. Some do not need visas, but most do.
If your citizenship requires a visa, the rules vary depending on your own citizenship - and sometimes in which country you make the application.
As an example, here is the website of the official (and compulsory) Handling Agent for Russian Visa applications made in the UK
Russia Visa Information - UK - Home Page
It shows the requirements, conditions and costs (including those for non-UK citizenships) for applications made through the Russian Consulate in UK.
Similar websites exist for applications being made through Russian Consulates in a number of other countries.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
