Definitely no Carnets in Europe. If you've got a green card for insurance bring that otherwise you'llneed to purchase insurance at the some of the border. It's mostly pretty cheap but beware: Macedonia is €50 (alot but worth it - great country!) and Serbia is €150 (definitely, in my humble opinion, not worth it!
It doesn't appear you're going there but just in case. Montenegro is part of the EU so any EU insurance will suffice but Albania isn't so it's about €11. Enjoy these 2 countries in particular - they're fantastic!
