Sweden-mongolia summer 2014
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for like minded people to join me this summer on a trip to mongolia. I'm going to leave the first week of July and have 2 months off work. I'm an Englishman, 31yrs old, but have been living in sweden for the last 3yrs. I have a 1990 dr650 that I just brought ( which I hope will get me there). I'm no motorbike master and haven't really done much proper off-roading. But I'm up for anything. Last summer I took my bike test and brought a Domi 650 and did 13000km around Europe and a little bit of Russia on my own. Now I'm really hooked. I haven't got a tight budget but I like to live cheap, camping and fishing as much as possible or get a hostel in the city's, have a few  s and meet lots of nice people. That's the plan..
Think I will head into Russia through the Ukraine, then go Russia, Kazakhstan and mongolia. Nothing is set in stone yet and I could leave a few weeks earlier if it means riding with someone else.
Anyway it would be good to hear from people riding that direction around the same time.

Im looking at going from Stockholm to Australia, but havent fixed dates or what route to take yet. Will most likely leave sometime in July though and I need to be in Australia end of October.
My motorcycle experience is very limited and I dont like to be a burden, but maybe we could say hi somewhere on the road anyway 
Congratualtions on the DR 650! Hope it runs well.

Hi guys,
there is a big bunch of people setting from all around Europe this spring to get to Mongolia/vad/ Magadan / East for RTW etc...

On my side we plan to leave the UK week 22d of April, cross Ukraine, Kazakh, then central Asia Stans (more interesting that all Kazakh) and back to Kazakh, Russia, Mongolia, then Irkutsk to pick up the trans-siberian and from Moscow ride back home.
All our itineraries are detailed in the spreadsheet .

I'll start from Varberg the 19th of June. Need to go to Berlin first, then heading straight towards Mongolia - Baikal/Irkutsk - western BAM - Tynda - Yakutsk - Magadan.
Riding buddy is always welcome.

Hi people,
I am planning atrip to Mongolia in late May early June 2014 too. I am hoping to buy a Brand new IZH Planetta and would like to know if they are easily available in Ulanbattar or would I be best trying to find one in Moscow? or elsewhere in Russia and riding in? I would like to ship the bike to Perth Australia after the trip also so any advice about that? (from Mongolia or Russia?) Any info would be greatfully recieved

Thanks for info. May I ask why through Ukraine (esp given current developments)? To me it seems like Turkey -> northern Iran and then into "Asia stans" is more interesting. But I dont know much about either way, maybe Im wrong?

Hi FS,
Ukraine is the most direct route. Iran requires a carnet and I don't want to get one just for that. Too much hassle!
Going via Turkey and Georgia is too much of a detour as we have limited time.
Going via the ferry to Turkmenistan is a lot of hassle and too much uncertainty.
Troubles in Ukraine are probably limited to big towns and Crimea and we will avoid those. For now I am not changing our plans, but if things deteriorate in Ukraine I have plan B or C ( via Latvia or via turkey and Georgia...)

Hi FS,
Matter of what you'r looking for. For me Turkey/Iran seems more interesting than Ukraine. A bunch of us is indeed going via Turkey and then we split again between ferry crossing Baku to Turkmenistan and myself and Daze55556 and Hibble will go via Iran. The Carnet is compulsory for Iran and a bit of a PITA but I'm lucky with ADAC in Germany which issues them relatively cheap. Daze has managed to get deal with a local chap named Hossein who can organize a CdP locally. We are aiming at joining again in Samarqand for the Pamir and later Mongolia.

Thanks a lot, makes sense. Esp if you have limited time and dont need carnet for later in the journey! Lets hope this Ukraine/Russia situation stays local (or even better - gets resolved).

Ok, I kind of overlooked the carnet thing since I will need it anyhow (hoping to get to Australia).
I dont like hassle (who does? ) but I think northern Iran would be an added flavor.

I should mention that Iran is daf worth of visit and that would be a different experience, also there is many nice landscapes and some great roads for biking.

I'm planning/hoping to get to Vladivostok buy the end of September before the weather turns. I'm hoping to leave the UK beginning of June but at the latest July giving me 3 months to get there.
The route Romania Bulgaria Turkey Georgia Russia Kazakhstan and Mongolia.
If I'm unable to get away in time I will being doing it early 2015.

My plan is the following:
- Start (fix): 6 of June 2014 : Hungary, Budapest
- Route to Magadan: Budapest (Hu) - Minsk (BY) - Nizhniy Novgorod (Rus) - Ekaterinburg - Omsk - Krasnoyarsk - Tayshet - BAM Road - Bratsk - Severobaikalsk - Neryungri - Yakutsk - ROB (Road of Bones) - Ust Nera - Susuman - Magadan.
- Backroute: Magadan - Old Summer Road (OSR) (depend on weather/road conditions) - Yakutsk - Tynda - Chyta - Ulan-Ude - Ulaanbaator (MN) - Gobi - Mongolia (South Route) - Altay (7 days) - Novosibirsk - Chelyabinsk - Minsk (BY) - Budapest (Hu)
Finish (fix): 3 of August 2014.
