Chile to USA - February 2014

Looking for fellow travellers to join me traveling from Santiago [/B]Chile to the USA over a period of six months. I will be on a 2013 KLR 650. Currently planning the trip as a solo ride but would be good to have other motorbike riders along. Please respond to this thread.

Hey Alex,

I'm in Cali, Colombia and I plan on going through Peru, Bolivia and Ecuardor before I set off for the States! May be we could meet up in one of the above mentioned and head north together? (Riding the 2003 KRL 650)

Cheers!

Don

Hey Alex,

I'll be in Chile in early January, heading to Patagonia and then northbound. Only thing is, I think I'll be on a tiny bike (125-250cc) so your KLR would beat me

I will be heading from Ecuador to USA way in the next six months as well flying into Quinto on the 27th jan. I have nearly been convinced by these pages that a small bike is the way to go for the trip that I want.

Looks like we have a few other wanderers as well.

Nice to hear from you and sounds like we have the same trip planned. Hopefully you are interested in taking 6 months or so to do it like me.

Verticle_c, sounds good lets try to meet up. Whats your email address? I know of a few people doing the trip on a small bike and should be fine. I did 3,000 km across Vietnam on a 125cc and it was a great trip but a little rough going up the hills of the Ho Chi Minh trail. I think a bigger bike is better for really big distances unless its not in your budget.

Cool, i sent you my email via email. Would be good to meet up with fellow travellers.

Yeah I know the small bikes will be a pain sometimes but so will a big bike. My last big ride was across the USA on a goldwing so a 125-250 will be the complete opposite, but I think its what is right for my trip. Its not really the money but the flying under the radar a travellers 650 might be actually cheaper than a local 250. I may swap for a bigger bike when I get to the US if I have a couple more months.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
