Brazilian Amazon in March 2016

Hi!

We are looking for another 4x4 to join us on a trip through the Amazon.

We are currently in Uyuni (Southern Bolivia) and plan to enter Brazil between 10 and 12 of March. Then we want to go via BR319 from Porto Velho to Manaus, take a ferry from Manaus to Santarem and then head back to Porto Velho via BR320 (Transamazonica) and then back to Uyuni.

We have a 1996 Toyota Land Crusier in very good state, without a winch, but with an experienced off-road driver. Road conditions might vary between "okay" to "impassable" and might change quickly while driving. The biggest issue will likey be bridges, which might be washed away (especially on BR319 - on this part it will be necessary to have enough fuel to cover 1000 km, so that one can return to Porto Velho even if the last bridge - 102 km before Manaus - is gone).

If in Puerto Velho we will learn that BR319 is a total mess we might go via BR320 to Santarem and then return to Bolivia via BR230.

For the Porto - Manaus - Santarem - Porto loop we plan 3 weeks. In good conditions one needs 4 days for BR319, 3 days for the Manaus - Santarem ferry and 5 days for Santarem - Manaus part.

Anyone?

Sounds interesting but we will be sticking to the bitumen at this time of year. Might spot you in Porto Velho.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
