I need to ask you a question .... do you know what is the difference between the DR650 which has been produced in 1996 and which has 15.000km in Germany and the same one which was produced in 2010 with 15.000km in the USA.
.... just when produced .... just that and nothing more.
Of course, if you buy one in Germany will cost you less.
Just a friendly advice.

Thank you johnnail I really appreciate the tip off however I'm hoping to get a 2013/14 model. I know they're unchanged but I figure as I'm buying blind there's less risk if I go lo-mile almost new plus the wiring will be pristine as will bearings on bike and engine etc. I have a budget that I can stretch to $5000 as that with a pro cycle tank and shipping to the UK is still no dearer than a heavyweight XTZ660 Tenere which is the nearest bike to the DR currently on sale over here

I am looking for a newer model (see above) So in answer to your question, the difference is nearly twenty years and it will take me months to get it to the mechanical condition I want. I'd rather work doing carpentry and buy the newer bike.
Bit like asking what is the difference between a woman born in 1960 and one born in 1980

Wheel bearing which is produced 96 and which is driven 15000km is the same as a wheel bearing which was is produced in 2015 and who also passed the 15,000km
Or maybe I'm wrong I'm sorry I am from Serbia, the Balkans.

Done this already...
It is my personal buying criteria as listed above. Twenty years is a long time for something made from low quality metal and stored outside for most of its life. I see this as a bonus on the reliability side. Wiring deteriorates plastic goes brittle. Like I say it is what I personally am looking for.
If I find a 1996 bike in the same condition as a 2013/14 bike with every single part replaced with new parents then I will buy it.
And why apologise for being from Serbia? Thank you for your input on this thread and doing so in my language :-)

You can do this sort of thing yourself 'cos you own your own postings; right next to the edit button for any of your posts should be another one for "advanced edit" - go in to that one and crack on.

Now I am editing from a minute ago.
Correction to above - after clicking on the edit button it will offer you the chance to "save, go advanced, delete, cancel".
You want the second option.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
