You won't legally get to Khasan without a border permit. I applied for one in 2017 in Vladivostok and was told that independent travel there is forbidden. So if you want to get to Khasan legally, start looking for a travel agent.
If you want to make a tour of it, Russia is filled with magnificent scenery, especially in the republics of Altai, Tuva, Khakassia and around Lake Baikal.
If you're just going for the destination, you have a long, long asphalt road with nothing much to see apart from a brief glimpse of Baikal at its least attractive point. Ending the trip in Magadan would at least give you some non-asphalt road and spectacular scenery.
