As much as I feel sorry for those guys, and am sure they had no mal intent, and may not even have known they were breaking the law, it's a sharp reminder to travellers to know and respect the laws and customs of countries they travel in. Iran is being backed into a corner by the western world and subjects of old / current enemies such as the UK should be especially careful.
Often we travellers can get away with playing the dumb tourist but at the wrong time, in the wrong place your luck runs out and suddenly an innocent adventure has big consequences.
Hoping for a quick resolution to this case and no knock-on effect for future travellers.
