Tip to possibly get your stolen bike back
I saw this on Reddit (Source). Place a contact card inside your rim to catch a thief.

For international travel
your phone number would have to include the ISD code ..

for many here it may be better to include an email address.

And Date teh information, so new owners can add their details with a new date - this way there is a record of owners!

Rather than a card that will probably be removed by any tyre change, write it on the rim using a permanent marker or paint. If you sell the bike tell the new owner to write their details.

A little bit more high-tech is to hide the "chip" that is used for dogs somewhere in the bike! this works for pedal bikes too! and most police stations can read these!.....


There are literally 1000's of places a transponder that small can be hid. This idea got a £3000 mountain bike returned for a mate, because he could prove the bike was his, when he found it at a second hand market shop!

Hi ....just abit late for this I suppose....but what if you engraved your ID inside a front sprocket cover or inside a side oil filter cover; even the inside and outside of the bash plate can be engraved with ID....the material is certainly thick enough on all those surfaces for engraving.....I find removing the tyres unless I have to is real pain and not one to do unless you get that dreaded flat.

Other countrys other rules. Even with a chip you cant proof that you did not sell the bike and in the poor countrys were bikes get stolen most the police dont care about chip readers and nobody will care about a email adress. They are happy to have the bike and on their cars they also dont bother taking if the name of the companie who oened the car before. In Nigeria you see many cars with German and Japanese names on it. Are they all stolen???

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
