Budgeting Spreadsheet

I threw together a quick spreadsheet to help me get a rough idea of what I plan to spend on a trip. I thought I'd post it here in case someone else would find it useful. It is probably way too detailed with respect to meal and lodging costs...and perhaps too general with respect to other large ticket items, e.g., bike shipping, etc.

The YELLOW shaded cells are input cells. All others are fixed text or calculated fields. The sheet is protected, but there is no password.

Hope someone finds this useful!

Mike

ps. The data in the sheet are for two individuals on a Ural sidecar rig. I'm sure a lot of the data is off-base, but it was mostly for testing purposes.

My wife and I have been on the road since June 2014 (we did spend some time at home in the UK in 2017 due to family illness) and we keep scrupulous expense reports. For example, we can tell you how much we've spent on haircuts, fuel, road tolls, bike maintenance, groceries, accommodation and break that down by accommodation type and much more.

We have an Access database that we populate every day, only takes a couple of minutes, and an Excel spreadsheet with pivot tables for data analysis and reporting.

We started our trip in Alaska and are now in Colombia. I've published detailed expense reports for all countries up to and including Panama. An expense report for Colombia will be produced when we leave the country. You can see the reports here Expense Reports Archives - Two Brits and a Triumph Tiger 800 Round The World

If anyone wants a copy of the database and spreadsheet just let me know. It's easy to copy the database, empty it, and send it on.

Very comprehensive website!

I’d be interested in seeing that spreadsheet. Can you send it my way?

Safe travels!
Mike

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
