Vacation to Vic Falls - advice

I would like to rent a 650 moto in Johannesburg and use up to three weeks to travel to Victoria Falls. Perhaps taking in a few other attractions as well. Does anyone have advice or warnings about rentals, border crossings etc. Also what would be the best time of year for this trip. I would be going solo and prefer pavement but good gravel is fine. Thanks for any thoughts.

I was there just a couple of weeks ago and the falls were at their most beautiful because it was before the rainy season. In or after the rainy season it is also an awesome experience as the massive flow of water is thundering but then you can't see much because of the spray and mist.
You can do the whole trip on tar if you want and the roads are good all the way. I would make a stop at Matopos near Bulawayo and camp at the dam. Lovely place.
Have fun. Andre.

Bob,

have you contacted any rental company yet? It might prove to be a problem to get permission to ride the bike into Zimbabwe....

That's right, I was in Zim last spring, with a rental 4x4, and had to pay tons of money to get in, because a rental car is considered a commercial vehicle (what they told me anyway..)

Better try Zam ?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
