Hi ,

The SOAP is valid only in Chile. For the rest of the countries you need a Mercosur Insurance (valid for Chile, Peru, Argentina, and others countries belonging to Mercosur).
The best option is to buy it online in HDI Seguros (HDI Seguros en Chile | HDI Seguros). You select the type of insurance:
SOAP : Valid only for Chile
Responsabilidad Civil (Mercosur): This is you need if you want visit SA
Seguro Obligatorio Vehiculos Extranjeros: For imported vehicles, insurance only for Chile.

When you select the insurance, the page ask for PATENTE (means the plate), and the dates of validity (start and end of your trip). Then you paid

I hope help you guys

Is the same. Usually i have to buy this insurance to travel to Peru (i live in Arica/Chile). I cross the border in my Triumph Explorer XC.

That insurance only is required by the police if they control you in the streets. Nobody ask for it in the border.

Hm - sound strange to me. Anyway I tried to go through the process and after choosing type of Seguro I put in dates and the next stage I needed a RUT and a chilean adress. Game over... No other way to do it?

Instead a RUT you can put your passport number or other ID number. For the Chilean Address you can use mine. Please PM to give to you.

I hope can help...

Thanks for offering ti help, much appriciated. However I doubt an insurance with a fake RUT and a random chilean adress would be valid.

I have chatted online with HDI Seguros today as not many other options seem to come my way but they could not sell me any Mercosur insurance for my norwegian plated bike.

Others might have better luck with HDI Seguros than me of course but I dont think they are happy to sell Mercosur insurance to vehicles from outside of Mercosur. It was possible to buy SOAP valid only for Chile though...

ECUADOR does not require insurance, it is included in the locals road tax and extends to foreigners.

Buyers beware, some companies include PERU (ATM I believe) but most don't.
So, you ask at the border going into Peru and they will direct you to and office close by.
Don't overthink it, if you use a mayor border crossing during office hours its easy.
Well - youre probably correct, and I have maybe expressed myself akwardly. I would like an insurance that cover as many of the south-American countries as possible, mercosur members or not. HDI has an insurance that covers Argentina, Brasil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Peru (and they dont call it a Mercosur insurance) And it would have been very near perfect for me if they only would have sold it to me....

Btw - Venezuela is not a member of Mercosur anymore as they were suspended in 2016. And Chile and Peru and some other countries are associated members of Mercosur....https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercosur
