The California title for my GS shows "my name" OR "my wife's name" as owners.

Will this be a problem when traveling from the USA down to Argentina (via Mexico, Central and South America.

She will not be traveling with me.

Please, let me know if you had similar experiences.

As a Buenos Aires HUBB community member I answer Argentine specific questions. I am not an attorney - although I did a semester at a U S law school, so be forewarned that my answer is based on my experiences on the streets of Buenos Aires, and not necessarily a legal opinion...

Any Argentine title - vehicle, property whatever, is automatically owned by both man and wife or woman and husband - and the word "or" exists not.

For example I was a co-owner of an Argentine registered vehicle and although the other owner listed on the title was not my wife, when we, the other owner and I, decided to sell the vehicle, my wife had to present herself and her identification to Argentine motor vehicles and sign that she agreed to sell the vehicle that was in my and a friend's name.

So, and this is based on my experiences in Argentina only, you and your wife might be considered owners of your GS by Argentine law, and this is not dependent upon her name, or your name actually being on the title.

So, if your name is on the title and you explain that you are married to the woman who is also on your title I doubt you will have any problems entering or exiting or buying insurance in Argentina.

Of course, according to Argentine law it would be illegal for you to sell your GS entered into Argentina on a Temporary Vehicle Import Permit, so the question of who is on the title regarding a potential sale is mute.

Thank you very much for your response.

It is important to clarify that I don't intend to sell the bike anywhere.
I am just concerned if the "husband" OR " wife" title will create problems in boarder crossings both in Central and Latin America when I'm traveling solo.

I'm happy to hear that Argentina will not be a problem.

(I can always try to delete her name from the title but it will take some time.)

honestly do not think you will have a problem - i am currenty travelling with a power of attorney - so dont even have the bike in my name and i have only had a problem in peru (no problems in chile, colombia, argentia, ecuador) - you have to be the title owner for peru but if you have your name on the title i doubt it will be a problem but if you are going to have problems anywhere it will be there.

do not know about central but will be there in a few weeks and will pm you if i have any problems.

You should not need the title at any border crossings, only the registration. That said, I would bring a copy. For further certainty, you could write up a Power of Attorney and get it stamped at a notary, but this step is really unnecessary unless you might try and sell it.
