Looking for a Lightweight 250 to 400cc Adventure

I have been riding over 40 years. I rode Laverdas, Ducatis, Honda, Kawasaki and others. I downsized to ride scooters 250 to 400 cc.

I retired 2 years ago I and been riding full time on 2 Kymco Downtown 300 cc scooters, 1 in Canada, and the other one in Colombia. These scooters were very impressive and way bejound my expectations. I did over 60,000 km, 2 up with the 48l side cases and 58l top Givi Trekker Outback.

I sold the scooter in Colombia, because I plan to ride the Peruvian and Bolivian Andes and throughout the Amazon.

I look for a 250 to 400 cc adventure Motorcycle. I expect this motorcycle would ride better than dual sport on tarmac, and ride better than a regular motorcycle on gravel road.

I'm 62, 5'6'' and I weight 130 pounds. I would expect the seat to be no higher than 31 inches. This Motorcycle must be able to carry the huge paniers and top Case. I expect that this motorcycle will ideally weight or work down to 325 pounds.

That being said, I'm aware I need to plan a budget of $5000. minimum to reduce the weight, upgrade the front and rear suspension, the brakes and the seat. I could buy used and budget more on modifications. I look reliability, durability and safety.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
