Long term parking in Ecuador
Can someone recommend a safe place where I can leave my bike while I fly back to Europe?

for how long?

We left our camper at a parking near Quito airport

iOverlander | Airport Parking "San Jose" nice family, live on the premises. Can camp there as well Wifi, bathroom, undercover parking, free airport transfers

Overstay the TVIP and the fines will send you broke

Hi everybody.

If it fits you, in Peru we can storage motorcycles legally until 1 year, performing a procedure with customs to freeze the TIPV. Just contact me.

Said to be about US$350 PER DAY for normal vehicles. Haven't heard of anyone actually getting fined but there was a story of someone who bought a car off another foreigner and when they arrived in Ecuador were accused of overstaying the TVIP and levied around US$15000 in fines because the previous owners TVIP had been handed in but not processed. Took a long time to get sorted out and even then the fine was only considerably reduced rather than waived completely.

We got our TVIP suspended in Peru - for 8 months quite legally (but don't overstay there either because they supposidly don't levy fines and instead just keep your vehicle.

I can help you with space close to Quito, my place is safe and un-expensive.
Tell me how long do you need. Are you already in Ecuador?
If not, probably the permit is only 90 days.

Hi there, in my experience it's difficult and risky to leave the bike here for more than 90 days. Another possible solution would be legalize the bike in Peru, as this process is too expensive in Ecuador.

To specifically answer the question about secure long-term parking in Ecuador. We left our bike at Finca Sommerwind near Ibarra for two months Nov 17 - Jan 18. The place is run by a couple from Germany. They can store bikes, cars and trucks at their campground.

I needed to get a 90 day visa and then extend my TIP at aduana, Quito airport to avoid the possibility of paying a fine.

The visa process has now been replaced with a much simpler mechanism. Migracion are really busy trying to deal with people from Venezuela and it took one MONTH to get at visa. The new process takes a couple of days.

Hi, does anyone have a confirmed information on how long you can leave your motorcycle in Ecuador? Is the 90 days mentioned in older posts obligatory or can they be extended? I assume that I will take a break from my trip in Ecuador for about 9 months. After this time I would like to come back and continue my journey south... someone can advise me on something?
If not Ecuador for such a period, then perhaps Panama?

In my personal experience aduana in Ecuador will match the date on the TIP to the amount of time given to you my migracion and nothing more. I needed to go home for a couple of months (Dec 17 - Jan 18) and at the time had to apply for a visa to extend my original 90 day visitor permit. Once received, a quick visit to aduana at Quito airport and I had a new TIP that matched the expiry date of my visa.

Migracion will let you extend your original 90 day visitors permit by another 90 days. The process now takes 1, maybe, 2 days. The only catch is that you cannot extend more than 2 or 3 days in advance of your original visitors permit expiry date.

Leaving your motorcycle in Ecuador for nine months and returning after your TIP has expired is going to be expensive. When entering Ecuador and when extending my TIP it was made VERY clear that the fine for overstaying is very large. I was told $365USD per DAY.

Maybe an easier option is to leave it in Peru. Ecuador is a small country and regardless of where you are Peru is not that far away. Going to Panama and leaving the bike there is possible, I have friends that have done it, but obviously only makes sense if you plan on continuing your journey north.
