Looking for stopover in southern california

Hello All
My partner and I are starting a bike trip to South America from Canada.
I need to find a place in Southern California where she can stay for two weeks while I fly back for work. It would need to have safe parking for bikes and be reasonable close to an airport.
She would prefer to stay somewhere quiet, not big city in other words.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the forum,
San Luis Obispo on the central Califiornia coast half way between LA and SF is one of my favourite places in the US and has an airport and a railway station, or one of the near by coastal towns such as Los Osos or Morro Bay are also very nice, smaller still and I felt as safe as anywhere there.

You didn’t say anything about how she wants to spend her time during those two weeks, but if it was me I’d look inland a bit—maybe the Four Corners region, where the weather is predictable and outdoor recreational options endless. On the other hand, neither did you say what time of year, and in some areas this makes a huge difference: mountain snow, coastal fog and rain, over or under-heating, etc.

As Mark says, San Luis Obisbo is a nice area with options for a variety of activities, but after two weeks there I’d be….restless at the very least.

Hope that’s helpful!

Mark

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
