Cool Nov 2016? North chile, north argentina, bolivia, peru.

Hi folks:
I have been delaying and delaying but this seems to be the good one.

The plan is to leave UK and land in Santiago de Chilein November, where I would buy a second hand motorbike. Travel for about 3 moths and back to sell the motorbike.

Seems clear no? Well first of all , I know that everybody recommends Chile to buy the bike because it’s easier to cross the borders. Could this circle be done starting in Peru or even Ecuador??? Is much difficult to cross frontiers with a motorbike of this countries?? It is easy to buy a motorbike in this countries????

Because it’s a ring trip I don’t mind to start either in Peru Ecuador or in Chile. But the other great question its weather;

Itinerary includes

Atacama,
Uyuni
Peru Higlands
And all the possible countryside of this countries

My idea is to depart on Nov from Chile and going North during Nov, Dec and January but would be better to depart from Ecuador/Peru and going South??

Thanks a lot, I know there is a lot of info but most of the times seems contradictory.

All the people thinking about the same stuff please contact me if you want to grab a drink there

Have you managed to plan how you will buy the bike?

I am either buying a bike in Chile and doing a round trip or shipping my bike from NZ to Chile and Home from Lima. I think I would prefer buy and sell though, as long as the paperwork doesn't take too long.

What have you found out so far?

Do your research on buying in Chile because getting the RUT is just the start of the process. Was normal practice to go through the whole procedure but instead of waiting for the final paperwork to be processed - taking some weeks - people used to get a poder from the previous owner and set off with that instead of hanging around. Then Peru started refusing access to poder holders at a couple of their southern borders and while it obviously is fairly hit and miss, there are still stories of odd refusals even when going via Bolivia.
Not a deal breaker as long as you are aware that it could be a problem

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
