Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan mid September 2016 (Booking to complete by 10th July)

Hello everyone,

Myself and a friend are planning to cross from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan mid September 2016 on motorbikes. We are 2 riders on 2 bikes.

Google maps: https://goo.gl/maps/zMQrJzn6TXF2

We have two options that we have been looking at.

Option 1 (Cross in 4 days):

Day 1: Entering China Kyrgyzstan (Irkeshtam border). Border formalities. Drive to Kashgar. Arrive in Kashgar late afternoon.
Day 2: Formalities at the traffic administration in Kashgar. Here, your temp. Chinese driving license and number plate will be issued. This process might take the bigger part of the day until 5 pm.
Day 3: Kashgar - Tashgurkan: Drive on the Karakorum Hwy. to Tashkurgan. to . 5.5 hours / 300 km
Day 4: Tashkurgan - Pakistan: Border crossing. Around 3,5 hours / 200 km into Pakistan

Option 2 (Cross in 6 days):

- Add another day in Kashgar to visit the old town and sights around. If we enter on the 15th we can use your extra day in Kashgar for visiting the famous Sunday market.
- Add another day at Karakul Lake at the Karakorum Hwy. In this case we would drive from Kashgar to Karakul lake (200 km / 4 hrs.) and on the next day to Tashkurgan (100 km / 2 hrs.)

If your interested in joining our group please email us law2oz@hotmail.com

We need to finalise numbers by the 10th of July so please respond ASAP if interested.

Hi there,

I came through this route last November on your Option 1 and have a tip for you - query whether you need to do the driver's licence and other formalities at Kashgar with your agent. We were told that we needed to by a European-based agency and so were charged for a guide for that part of the trip. But when we got there the guide said we didn't need to do so, so we just gave him the day off and headed to Tashkergan a day early.

We queried the agency about this afterwards but they refused to give us any kind of refund, which was disappointing.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
