Hey Chris, great Map thanks for that! Looking forward to the book as we will be travelling in this region in 2017.

Just one question: You write China and Vietnam are difficult with the bikes but not Myanmar. Why is this? As far as I heard it is quite similar to China (only Group riding and hard to get a visa and so on).

Thanks and cheers
Xenia & Martin

I have not heard it's hard to get a visa for Myanmar, but depends on nationality of course. And the escorted 12-day Myanmar transits seem to be much easier to organise at short notice and are good value from $100 a day half-board with a small group. Plus this has extended a key overland route to SE Asia.

China may be easing up on the paperwork but the western provinces remain 'restricted' areas. Right now it takes many months and costs thousands.

Though I am sure some have managed, Vietnam has a problem with temp import of big bikes or foreign bikes. Easier to buy locally. Cambodia and Laos fewer probs.

The above is only intended as a general route outline to give a big picture of the least complicated possibilities suited to daunted first timers. Experienced Asia overlanders won't learn much.
Burrow down into the HUBB for the fine print ;-)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
