My first trip out of the city I went to the coast on my 250, wearing an old loose helmet and a denim jacket I had taken from my mom's closet. That ache, that long road, that Texas sun. Memories are dependent on so many things and distance is rarely one of them. Enjoy the next 26.

Bikes and Beer .
Should you one day wish to cross a border and come to Wettest Wales for a biking weekend drop me a line and i would be happy to ride a day or two and drink a with you.
Maybe the HUBB next year is a good target to aim for.

I've been planning a trip to the Peak District all year, and decided to go a few weeks ago. Unfortunately the weather looked appalling so I decided to go over to Norfolk 7 Suffolk instead. Ended up going to Ness Point and staying overnight in Lowestoft. Then I came back via Ashbourne just to get a taster of the Peaks. Stayed a 2nd night in Stoke, and then came home to South Wales via Llangollen and the Horseshoe Pass.
My intention was to stay in one of the many, lovely looking pubs in the Peak District as I have a love for real ale too :-)
So, I'm planning to do it next year now instead.

It's far better to be out riding than not, no matter how far you go.

Get yourself a top box, fill it with a flask and sandwiches and just stop in a layby or somewhere picturesque, or somewhere near a biker place. Have yourself a relax while watching the world go by and hopefully you won't feel so intimidated. Build up your confidence until you are ready to give it a go. I dropped my bike in front of hundreds at a local bike meet a few years ago. A couple of blokes came over and helped me lift it back up. No worries, no drama, just a big red face from me under my lid :-)

As said above, well done, every step every mile is an adventure which is all yours.

The distance compared to others is really not important, its what you do and how you feel inside for completing your journey that counts.

But I know how you feel, many many years ago I passed my test and then did not get on a bike till years later then eventually got a scooter and rode around London on it for years.

Then a day came and I knew I was to do more so bought a motorbike and then started to venture further slowly.

The venturing has not stopped and now after riding all over the UK, Europe and Morocco for a couple of weeks each time, I loved it so much that I took a decision to do a "Big trip" and am now a long way from home and nearly 22 months on the road.

So take your time enjoy the ride but importantly learning of the art of motorbikes, " Thierrrrrr Great"

Keep up writing about your trips (good practice for when you go around the world).

Push yourself by going another 20 miles on the next ride.

Get the miles under your belt and everything else takes care of itself.

As soon as I finish tapping away I'll post up the tale of my 38 miles (each way) bike trip that I did last weekend. Years ago it would have been a sex and drugs and rock and roll biker lifestyle story but my wife tells me I'm too old for the sex, my body tells me I'm too old for the drugs and the rock and roll has been toned down to folk music and a cup of Horlicks. Oh yes, every ride an adventure. I'm sure you can't wait to read about it ....

I can only echo all the positive replies you have already had!
Good on you for your first proper ride out and good on you for posting about it here. Having only ever done days of a few hundred miles i was a little nervous turning up to meet a load of strangers at the hubb 'do' who it sounded like had all riden round the world - no need! I met the nicest most down to earth folk there, heard great stories and actually made new friends. Point being next time you see or pass such a place take your time, park up, get a snack or a drink and talk to people. Nothing to prove. Nothing to lose. It's not about that - and those that think it is usually show themselves up pretty quickly (and can be avoided) i'll stop now ()

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
