There is very little between cities in Kazakhstan except the glorious steppe, which is great for camping.
There are regular cafes which you could camp close to, but be prepared for noise through the night as lorry drivers pull in.
If you really need a bed / shower then plan your journeys to always stop in cities.
If you speak a bit of Russian you can head to the train station and normally find people advertising apartments for short-term rent.
