Krygyz - Tajik border clashes (2021 update)

Another year, and the clashes along the badly defined border in the far south west of Kyrgyzstan, just south of the Tajik city of Khujand, are only getting worse. 46 killed in the last couple of days.

I wouldn't be reading too much into this; this is in Fergana valley, away from typical tourist routes and this is unfortunately too typical due to overpopulation and lack of resources (water). Of cause that's fact that borders are closed and gastarbeiter stayed home didn't help. But there's no intention on either side to keep fanning the fire, so it will be short-term.

This is unfortunately almost annual at this point was the same in the fall of 2019 when we passed through.

There is shooting every year here. I live in Osh and you wouldn't feel anything serious about it here. Border conflict here is an old story but you know, there is no intention at KG government doing their homework to solve the issues.
Due to some rules and regulations in this particular incident, actually the Kyrgyz people failed and were not complying with it.

The reason:
https://novastan.org/en/tajikistan/w...order-clashes/

Promises of Gov....
https://24.kg/english/193131_Situati...ion_soms_each/

https://24.kg/english/193321_Familie...sations_first/

Anyway, shouldn't affect travelers much. There was for a short time road and border closed. But the road to Batken is working again, border may be another story.

Cheers!

@ZorroMoto how is the situation with Covid-19 restrictions, Dave? Are the borders still closed? I need to make to your shop at some point, maybe on the way to Tash-Rabat.

Heya there, we are currently in Uzbekistan. We are very eager to drive across the border to Kyrgyzstan. But we are hearing about some nationalities being restricted access. We are Dutch and it seems we are not on the list of 31 nationalities. Brits and German do, French don't...

I can't find any information why this list seems so random? When is it going to change why this list even exists..

Anyone more info on that?

2022 update

Annual border clashes more serious than usual ... A key KG bridge was destroyed by TJ forces at N39.90374 E70.50900 and Tajikistan has taken control of the strip of land connecting TJ proper and the Vorukh enclave.

(video at https://t.me/asbmil/5399)

That means every bit of KG further west than that is now cut off from the main part of KG, as this bridge was the only link to that area within the KG borders.

Not a good time to visit South-Western Kyrgyzstan right now

2 travellers from Austria which I know are in Kirgistan right now traveling.

They said, it is quiet, if you are not around Batken.
So the rest of Kyrgistan should not be affected
