Nuvi 270 not recognising OSM map or route

I've recently bought myself a Nuvi 270 off ebay, cheap as chips. Thanks to the OSM sticky on here I have also managed to instal Mapsource on my laptop and download a few OSM maps from the NL site. I have saved one of the OSM maps (img file) to an sd card and have also saved a gpx route to the card. The img file is in a folder called Garmin. When mapsource sent my route to the sd card it created a folder inside the Garmin folder called GPX and the route is in here, so: Garmin/GPX/userdata.gpx

The Nuvi has European and N American maps installed on the unit. They are not the latest version but that doesn't matter to me.

When I insert the sd card into the Nuvi it doesn't recognise it.

Am I doing something wrong? When I go into the menu on the unit I can see both the Europe and N America maps but not the OSM map or route. I thought I'd be able to select the route and get the Nuvi to follow it?

Any advice appreciated.

Dave

Everything that you describe is much the same as I have done with my Nuvi 205W (I haven't done much about routes up to now) except I can see the OSM mapping.
I've never bothered to try routes in there but I can see the tracks.
Occasionally, the Nuvi doesn't "load maps" OK with the SD card inserted (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't); then I switch it off, remove the SD card, switch back on to load maps and then reinsert the card in it's slot; after that the Nuvi can see the OSM map.

I suggest you experiment a bit, on these lines (or re-download the OSM).

Thanks Dave, will give that a try. I've got a power socket on the bike now so all ready to give it a go this weekend.

Well, I am no expert that's for sure.

I've put some info in here as well which might help - there again, it may not!

I've just checked the folders that I have open right now from that other thread - one for the internal memory and one for the SD card and they both use the same file structure as you:-
Garmin/GPX/userdata.gpx
