This week paid €210 open return (any outbound / return crossing) on the 35 minute fast ferry from Tarifa to Tangier Ville for a 6m long = 3m high 4x4 camper. This was from "Mr Carlos" in Algeciras, so came with free bottle of wine, cake and a glass

paid 100euro for open one person and one motorbike last week, Algeciras to Tangier Port. Got tickets from Mr Carlos so got free bottle of cider and cake. Just turn up and they sort it in minutes.
Also stayed in Hostal next door for night. €30 for one bed €40 for 2. Not cheapest but they kept an eye on my bike out front for me as its open 24hrs.
Nice little campsite in La Linea if you prefer N36, 11'30" W5, 20'06"

8 hours to pass Tanger Med to Algerciras today. Carlos' ticket wasn't valid and we had to pay another 220 dH to get sorted. Good price and got the freebies but not worth the headache IMHO. Acciona agent informed us it was a regular problem.
Also Moroccan customs are X-raying every vehicle this alone took well over an hour to complete meaning we missed our ferry and had to wait for the next which was an hour and a half late departing. Arrived at 12 got to Spain for 19:30

In a few days we will take the ferry from Ceuta to Algeciras with our 4x4. We assumed we could just turn up in Ceuta, buy the ticket and go. But is this indeed correct; does it work like that or do you have to buy your ticket in advance (if so, how much in advance)?
How much would you normally be charged at the spot for a 4x4 and 2 people? All tips are much appreciated!

To answer my own question, in case someone else would have the same: we turned up the late afternoon at the ticket office in Ceuta (entrance ferry) and paid EUR 86 for 2 people and 1 car (price was for a smaller car, even though ours is large) and left the morning after.

If I wanted to book everything before I left, which company is best to use? I'm going between Alceciras and Tangier, just me and my Motorbike at the very start of August this year. It's my first time in Morocco; Balearia seems to be a company that's mentioned quite a bit. Any good? Are there better? Noob question, I know. There's lots of advice and it's finding my way through that's proving difficult!

First time in Morocco? You'll love it! Lots of info on here so just ask if you've any queries.
There's really no need to book Algeciras/Tanger ferries in advance. They run about one an hour and there'll always be room for you and your bike.
You can turn up at the port and buy a ticket from the ferry company booths Acciona, Balearia, etc. or speak to one of the guys at the various travel agencies where you'll invariably get a better price.
Or go and see one of Carlos' lovely daughters...
Either way it's very straightforward and hassle-free.
Happy trails,
Peter

As Peter says.
We just use Carlos, he gave us a good price last month €120 return for 2 pers and a 4x4;
Proximamente
Algercias to Tangier Med border crossing seems to be easier than Ceuta.
Have a great time, Mark
