Motorcycle dealers/shops/repair outside Reykjavik?

I'll be travelling around Iceland this summer, greatly looking forward to some F-roads and astarpungar.

I'm preparing for the trip now, and it seems there are hardly any motorcycle dealerships, shops and/or repair options to be found outside of Reykjavik. Does anyone have recommendations, f.i. in Akureyri or anywhere really?

And if you might know of a great place to stay/visit, please don't hold back

Akureyri is a pretty big community, it's kind of the "hub of the north" in Iceland.

I have never ridden a moto there, but I've been to Akureyri many times ferrying aircraft trans-Atlantic. It's a nice community, quite large. I would be surprised if you were not able to find a motorcycle service facility there.

Keep in mind, though, that the entire population of Iceland is only 375,000 people. That's about the same as the population of Utrecht. Don't expect moto service facilities to have parts (or tires) in stock for your bike, parts will probably need to be air-freighted in. That may take a couple of days.

Hi,

My first thought is ¨why do you need such a dealer or shop ?¨
If you make sure your moto is in good condition before the start of your trip, you shouldn´t need a dealer or shop and just enjoy your trip.
I think there are no dealers and shops only for moto´s, but I don´t have experience with moto´s. I think every car repair workshop could help you out if something needs to be done.
I also doubt you would like to buy things or get things repaired in Iceland if it isn´t really necessary; everything will be much more expensive than in other countries.

This might be too late for your trip. Hope you had fun.
Putting this here for future travellers.

A lot depends on which bike you ride. I believe Honda, Suzuki, and BMW are all serviced by the car garages from the same brand. Nitro is maybe the largest independent motorcycle dealer (Kawasaki, CF Moto, Beta). Ktm has dealer that sells well, KTM. Also Husqvarna and GasGas. The Dutch version of multibrand motorcycle dealer (like Motoport or Goedhart) does not exist in Iceland.
Riders in Iceland think that motorcycle serviced by a dealer is a cute and novel idea, so there are lot of competent home mechanics with good tools, most with some selection of general spare parts. Asking around near to where you break down is a good idea.
Any part that is in stock in Reykjavík can be almost anywhere in Iceland within 24 hours. If you are willing to pay, almost any part can be shipped overnight to Iceland.

The best Oliebollen are in a supermarket named Fjarðarkaup. Enter the store, cross it diagonally to the opposite corner, where the bakery is. They also sell fresh milk in 1/4 liter containers. Perfect with Oliebollen. Pay on the way out. Enjoy.
Take your time, there is nothing in Iceland that is not worth seeing. Apart from the nature there is a nice motorcycle museum in Akureyri.

PS. Off-road riding is illegal and people are fined if caught. Clearly visible trails are considered roads in that regard. Single tire tracks are not.

Edit. Biking Viking sells and services BMW. Contact Arctic trucks for Yamaha.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
