HORIZONS UNLIMITED

The France meeting for motorcyclists, cyclists or 4x4 travelers is happening from September 20th to 22nd in Loupiac (Lot).

Horizons Unlimited invites all adventure lovers for a weekend of meetings, exchange, workshops and ride-outs, in Loupiac, in the Lot Department, all in a convivial atmosphere.

Do you dream about traveling, but still hesitate?

Come and inspire yourself alongside those who have realized their dreams and have returned from their journeys, by listening to the stories of their adventures, by discovering their travel movies and by simply talking to them.

A library area with maps, travel guides, road books, as well as the presentation and display of the latest technical gear, will also be available.

Do you want to leave and ride off right away?

A great half-day ride-out is also scheduled and road books will be available on site for those who wish to explore the region on their own.

Far from being just another exhibit by tour operators, Horizons Unlimited seeks to be, above all, a meeting between seasoned adventurers, novice travelers, and globe-trotters in the soul... All gathered together and driven by the same desire, that to realize their dreams of adventures on the less traveled roads of the world and to share them.

Mark your calendars and register now!

The campsite doesn't quite look like the picture above but it's a great site nonetheless. I went last Sept not knowing quite how I'd get on as my French leaves a little to be desired but it wasn't an issue at all. Highly recommended for all Brits who are up for 300 or so miles through France in what is probably the best time of the year to be there.

Are you going again this year? I went last year and got to within 50 miles when I got a series of punctures that put me behind schedule sufficiently to miss the entire event. This I will make it!

As BoB says - the roads are fabulous, the Dordogne is wonderful and the riding excellent. I think that they forgot to install the pot holes in France or did the UK take the whole of Europe's allocation?

If travelling from the UK then I suggest getting the DFDS ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe. Those wrinkly enough (over 60) qualify for a 20% discount on the fare (including cabin if you get one) - but you HAVE to phone up for it, it cannot be done on line, so book over the phone - even without the discount the fare is a better deal then Dover-Calais. The overnight ferry is really nice - slower than the ferry during the day but it gives you more of a chance to get some sleep. The food on the ferry was good and not too expensive. The operation of the ferry terminal was smooth and more human than Dover. The phone numbers from the UK is +44 33 058 787 87.

My plan is to go again this year. Quite on what I’m not sure and there’s many a slip twixt now and September, but it’s one of the few items on my planner at present. What I did last Sept was ride down to the event directly (I went Dover / Calais and overnighted in Beauvais as there were a few places I wanted to check out en route). Then after the event I rode over to the Grenoble area( in the worst rainstorm I’ve ever known) to do some housekeeping on a flat we have over there. The ride back to the U.K. ended near Dijon though when my ancient two smoke holed a piston. I’m hoping for a slightly less troublesome experience this year though.

I am aiming for a less troublesome trip this year as well - I will keep booking the event until such time as I make it but will definitely be going in 2026 - probably a few days into my trip.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
