CouchSurfing EU - Do you have a couch for a biker?

Hello all,

From June to October, I'll be riding round every country in the EU. I'm planning to camp a lot, will obviously be checking into some hostels and hotels from time to time, but I'm also planning to use the CouchSurfing website to meet-up and stay with some locals whenever possible.

It'll be a great way to learn a bit more about where I am and get some tips on places to see whist travelling - also hopefully an opportunity for me to pass on some good tips about where I've been along the way.

So, my question is, are there any HUBBers who're open to hosting a fellow biker for a night or two?

If so, it'd be great to hear from you - either drop me a private message on the HUBB or get in touch through the CouchSurfing website.

Below is a link to my route and the dates I'll be in each place. It looks quite specific but I'm keeping it flexible - there are some key places I want to see but I'm expecting to adapt the route a bit as I go - you never know what might come up on the trip that will send me in another direction.

Also, if anyone's got any tips on places to go in general, or is open to meeting up for a ride and a coffee (or maybe a , if the day's riding is done) along the way, it would also be great to hear from you!

All the best and maybe see some of you over the next few months!

Hi Cal,
I'll be following this thread as I hope to be in Europe for 6-7 weeks this year as well.
I'm a long time Couchsurfing host so would also be hoping to use it for my travels this year. I've used the Tent Space thread on ADV when in the US and Canada but there aren't many people listed in Europe.
Have a great trip!

Matt

Hi Matt,

If your trip takes you to Holland, send me a message via email.

I live in Amersfoort near Amsterdam and would love to host you if I'm not on the road myself.

Cheers,

Eddy

Thanks Eddy - I'm having a hard time working out where I can buy a bike and get registration (even with another person as the "owner"). I've seen some great bike at Newtown Bikes in Nieuwstadt.

Do you have a trip planned for this year yet?

Hi Matt,

I suppose that the shop can inform you about a registration for foreigners. After all they arrange it for locals.

Yes, the first 3 weeks of September I'm travelling in Germany (Mosell, German/Austrian border), Italy (Dolimiti) and France (Haute Savoie, Ardeche, Vercors), some parts alone and some parts with a group. That's why I didn't respond to Cal as I will be leaving when he plans to arrive in Holland.

Cheers,
Eddy

Thank you, Ward.

I hope you have a nice stay in Holland too. There are not many hairpins in Holland, but there are nice tracks too. If you need some nice routes in Holland, I have some.

Cheers,
Eddy

If you need a place in the South West of Germany, an hour south of Stuttgart then give me a shout.

Hi Mcguyver,

Although during working days are less preferred, because I have to work next day, it's okay with me. We can settle the details via PM.

Strange name "Hook of Holland". The original Dutch name is: "Hoek van Holland" which means Corner of Holland.

Cheers,

Eddy

Hi.

I have space for you in Stockholm, safe storage for the bike and a fully equipped garage in case something needs fixing.

I'll send you the details in PM.

Hi!
I have a place for you to stay if you need/want. Live outside Gothenburg, Sweden. I'm also well equipped with tools if you need a job on your bike.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
