XT600E 1997, carb problems

Hi,

I'm having problems with XT600E by. 1997 with stock (Teikei 3UX 03 carburetor). Engine idles fine, but as soon as I raise throttle engine starts to backfire, run poorly... when primary carb opens for about 5mm engine starts to work fine.

Air filter is new, carb is cleand with carb cleanser and compressed air,... but problem persist.

Main needle is on 3rd notch from the top, and label says 5D92. I cannot find which needle sould originaly be in that carb.
Main jet is 125, pilot air jet is open 2.5 turns.

Does anybody have some clue?

I believe the 3tb-dj02 comes with 130 jet in primary, and 120 jet in secondary carburetor.

Dont know if this alters anything, it shouldn't really.

Tell us more, did it ocour suddently?

I purchased motorcycle with that problem, so I don't know origin of problems. Seller told me that problem is in dirty carb, because of rusty tank.
I cleand carb, and found that rust is not the problem.

Needle in primary carb was in 3rd nocth from the top (out of 5), now is in 5th notch and engine runs much better. So, I think, that problem is in primary needle and/or main jet. Does anyone know which needle is originaly in that carb.

Thanks.

1997 bikes are 4tp models.
try looking for info on the 4tp carb set up.
i have my original carb off my 97 xt600e somewhere in the workshop i'll try and dig it out later and look at what the set up was on that.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
