nope thats nothing like the xt motor at all
the video is for bucket and shim type valves on a twin cam motor with cams above the valve/bucket single contact patch/wear point.
the xt is single cam so uses a rocker and follower two contact patches/wear points setup with the cam lobes up for opening the valves lobe down for valve closed.
no shiming on the xt motor its lock nut and adjustment screw as per erlier in this thread which is 5 yrs old btw.

Do you have any recommendations for a home-made tool to rotate the square adjusters? I use a pair of pliers but it's clumsy and makes getting a consistent 'feel' for the gauge difficult. Good spot on the angled feeler gauges. I use an old set that I have creased into the approximately right angles, but the ones you have seem ideal.
Good post, thank you.

IMPORTANT. Don't get the one I've got, this one:
Why? Too big to work in such a tiny space, since you have to put the wrench right under this tool to tighten the locknut, while this tool must remain to top to hold the adjuster at the right position.
While something like this (that I'm going to buy to "re-adjust" again the valve clearance) may allow you to move more freely, more precisely while the wrench remains underneath. You should be able to lift the box/ring wrench to keep on tightening the nut while you still keep in place this tool to maintain the position of the valve adjuster.
I'm no expert, but the opposite, that's why I tell you, don't try the big one!

Thanks guys - that looks perfect.
Update: I've been looking at offset feeler gauges on eBay. I can't find one with less than .005"/0.127mm blades. The inlets need .004"/0.10mm at the most. Think I will stick with my home-modified Halfords cheapies for now. The Motion Pro gauges are over 30GBP per blade - that's way too much for a bit of convenience, even though they look very good bits of kit.
