XT 600 Tenere fuel problems
My 1988 Tenere refuses to startit appears to be fuel starvation Iv found a strange gizmo alloy diaphram thingy bolted to the frame behind the tool box , both petrol taps are connected to this before going to the carb .There is no mention of this device in my Clymer manual , any ideas ???? thanks in advance

This is the fuel pump. Ive never had one go wrong on any of my tenere's, before pulling it a part i would start with a few basic's, check the filters on the tank pet coks as these can clog if you have crap in the tank, then i would give the carb a good clean making sure the float works ok. Have you checked to make sure that the pipe that runs from the top of the fuel pump to the top of the left side inlet rubber the one with a small brass pipe sticking up, make sure the pipe is fitted properly. This is the vacume pipe and works the pump. Hope this helps skip

Hi Eggy
this may sound a bit basic buts its worked for me a few times.

try taking off the fuel pipe from the tank making sure you don't lose all the

petrol then blow it through into the carb then refill from the tank again a

couple of times an blow it through again.

As it's vacum feed if it's previously run out on reserve it needs this to get

going again.

simple i know but it's worth a try.

Thumbs down Fuel pump
Hi Eggy
Be very carefully if you have disconnected the fuel pump as i tried this once, the bike ran fine but after a few day of riding about, i filled the tank up and left it over night, come the morning the gravity had forced the petrol passed the float valve and into and into the cylinder, the petrol washed down the bore passed the rings and filled the engine casing with fuel. i ended up having to drain the engine and let it dry out and fill with fresh oil and filter. The pump is on there for a reason best to get another if you can. Skip

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
