I don't worry about what form of grease I use on slide pins, but I suppose that's because I trust it not to migrate onto anything rubber. Probably best you do as Bobmech says.
You should be able to figure out a way to manipulate your caliper to see how it self-adjusts laterally, therefore see if anything is interfering. At least, that was true for me. Unlike electronics or fuel systems, all the wear issues happen out in the open where you can see them.
