Is there a way to make an xt600e 60hp?

As title says I'm looking for a cheap way that doesn't make my xts' bulletproof reliability... I already have uncorked it by installing a custom exhaust pipe with an fmf power bomb in the down pipes and an single 38mm mechanical Carb... any thoughts on this?

A bigborejob with oversized valves and ported head and a better cam should get you up there, IF you've got a decent carb/airbox/airfilter solution.

But I wouldn't call it cheap.

60 hp will be $3000 to $4000easy, how fast do you want to go ? As Jens said major head work, high comp piston,new con-rod, big tube exhaust, bigger carbs, bigger(custom intake), no airbox, better crank, revamped transmission( the oem won't last long), improved clutch. Should I go on ? almost doubling the hp goes way farther than a few small mods. Then there is how long will it live ? 45-50 would be a little more realistic but it is getting up there in mods.

Turbo would work and be easier, but there will be damage till everything is sorted out. It'll still be $2500 easy.

If you want that kind of power, get a KTM. For my use, mostly off road, some street around town, stock power and reliability is fine. Torque is what I want in this kind of bike and is why I purchased it back in '86, Moab and Colorado Trails.

JJ, I like the sound of your "FI project" oops, meant to keep it quiet....

back in the early 90's in supermono road racing, XT600 based motors did reach 60hp or more. Thats a very extreme, pure road racing motor that you wouldnt want to ride in the street and wont last long either.

doable yes, but it's a full blown project, flowed head, bigger valves, carillo connecting rod, titanium valve retainers, close ratio gearbox, etc. etc., so plan on putting aside a quite a few K euros... will be cheaper and more relaible getting a 690 ktm...

690 is pretty expensive here, the lc4 is cheap and have about 55hp, the 660smc i would recomend its only 130kg and 75hp price here for a 2003 is about the same as the XT same year.


KTM LC4 640 SM 2003, 17*300 km, kr 40*000,- -

KTM 660 smc 2003, 12*000 km, kr 45*000,- -

My buddys 640 enduro put out 49,7hp on road tires with pumpercarb, sxc exhaust ect. Theres still a long way to go, to get 20% more rear wheel horsepower out of that one.

The yamaha 660's put out around 55hp with different exhaust, and a airfiltersolution for a couple hundred euros. Thats with 60ccms more, and FI, and your're still not there.

The 640 came with both 49 an 55hp

Difference betwenn the highflow head and not I guess...? This bike had 43 hp on the rear wheel stock. On a bikeforum he mentioned it had 55hp, so I guess it was one of those. Just meassured on a dyno that isnt optimistic like most. My xt600e shoed 34,7 on the same dyno.

Anyways, that was just actual dynonumbers, se he could se what real world horsepower is.

What excactly the difference is on the engines i dont know, they have the same comp. and bore. All i know is that all the EXC models have about 75hp and light weight, you dont need to worry about not enoght power trust me. Like i said before it lifts on all gears if you like doing wheelis... We came far out from what he asked, cheapest is exhaust, dynojet, standard high comp, camshaft with springs for the valves.

Don't know what I will do... I love my undying xt and I don't want it replaced... smc are the worst... too unreliable... 690 is amazing for sure but with a price of 3500 euros too expensive for me right now..anyways will see what I'm gonna do after the summer is over in late October...

75 hp out an EXC ?! You're not getting anywhere that close...

You'd be lucky if you get more than 50 hp at the rear wheel of the biggest ones (5**cc EXC)...

But I agree, they are damn light and with the short gearing they truly are wheeling machines...
