Could I use motul 10-40 quad? its a mineral oil , I am not sure what the last owner put in it but I think it may have a tiny bit of clutch slip when opened up in top gear

Have been running this on all bikes for many many years, never any problems. Fully synth can give you clutch slip.

oh yes, a new oil thread!

let's see how long we can make it

ask 100 people and you will likely get 100 different answers.

oil are so good nowadays that as long as it is the right owner's manual spec it's hard to go wrong.

me? a cheap synthetic intended for cars i find easily in the supermarket next to home. seriously. use it in all my street bikes AND racebikes the last 15 years... only in my highly strung supermono i switched to race grade oil.

This is false when using motorcycle (or ATV) wet clutch specific oil . I strictly use full syn and have never had a clutch slip , even with full paddle tires on an atv's , reasonably heavy modded motors(Raptor660 & 700) going up 200-300ft dune faces using every ounce of juice the motor has.

Ok, never had any experience with this myself. Dealers and mechanics advice, but then again maybe this was better safe than sorry advice if you fill up with a non specific synth oil. As the manual says 10W-30, and in my head semisynth is more than good enough for this engine.

Ya, these motors don't really need full syn ,especially for regular day to day commuting . I like it for winter and then summer heat, like my high-comp motor that has seen 320F last summer and slow traffic .Regular dyno oil starts to break down by 250F.

One thing I didn't have time to finish in my last post (my lunch break was over ) Older /well used clutches that have lived in regular oils may not like synthetic and chatter . Most of mine start out with it other than break-in so it's not been an issue. Too many think oil is oil and grab any synthetic auto oil and then the clutch slips , so all syn's get blamed.
