It's not the timing - that has been eliminated as a possible cause.
I'm now looking at the cdi as the culprit, as mentioned before I think I might have caused it some damage while removing the left hand casing with the battery connected and the igition on (all the wrong things to do - I know!!!) the fuse has been blown too.
Even though this has happened there's still a bit of a spark. The spark is very poor infact it's pretty much non existant. I thought it might have been because the battery was dead but it's now fuly charged and the spark is no better. There was even faint sparking when the ignition was off.
