First of all, what bike are we talking about?
I've had the same thing as Jens describes, and it was a faulty ign switch for me as well. If it's just the engine that cuts out, I'd be looking at the supply of sparks. In my experience, quick cutting out and in again is usually electrical. Fuel supply problems usually start with a misfire or a feeling that the engine 'isn't right' and go from there downwards. If it just cuts quickly and then carries on, I would suspect the spark. Plug cap and HT lead, coil and then ECU, in that order, if it's a modern bike. Points, plug cap/HT lead, coil if older.
If everything cuts out, not just the engine, then you should be looking for a bad connection in the main wiring loom, starting with the battery connections, through the ign switch and so on.
[Edit:] Also, engine cold or hot? Fuel tank full or nearly empty? Just filled it up? Wet or dry weather? How long has the engine been running before the problem happens? Is there any kind of pattern?
