Centre stand for 1991 XT600E - updated info?
Hey guys, just picked up an old XT600E and I am trying to source a centre stand. A few threads popped up here but the info was a bit old. At the moment the only place I can find is the SW Motech one:







Does any one know of any other manufacturers? I believe I have found an Australian distributor but the didn't have the XT listed. I am sure they could get one in though

i know it seems like a daft question but why do you want a centre stand i use a motorcross stand for service and repair work.

May I answer your question, Wolfzero, as someone who has just fitted a centre stand? I looked for a motorcross stand but all those I found were recommended for bikes with a maximum weight less than the XT. I spoke to suppliers/manufactuers at several shows and they said my best bet for the XT was to go for a motorcycle jack, i.e. the hydraulic type.

There is, of course, an added dimension. Motorcross stands are great at home but not when you are on the road and want to remove a wheel to repair a puncture or do other maintenance work. A centrestand even makes oiling the chain easier away from home.

So, as hydraulic motorcycle jacks cost only a little less than a centrestand (which, I admit, are overpriced for what they are) and are handy on the road, it is easy to make the argument to fit one.

Oh, by the way, Double Supercool, my centrestand is from SW-Motech sourced through Motorbikes & Parts (best price when carriage is taken into account). The item is well made with all the bits and bolts and it works well in practice. Haven't tried it with a fully loaded bike yet.

suppliers/manufactuers always want you to spend more on their products and will steer you towards the more expensive hydraulic type when the standard ones will do the job just fine
i use the same one i use for my kmx200 i added a £10 bottle jack to it for easy lifting of the heavier xt600 so for £35 i have a hydraulic motocross stand
when offroading i carry tyre repair foam and as of yet i've never had to change/repair a tyre whilst away from the workshop i've never had any problems using just the side stand to lube the chain either.
its all a matter of preference i supose i dont like adding extra weight and anything that may catch when offroad to the bike.
oh an that is deffo over priced too

Happy with my stand
I got one from SW Motech and it's one of the most useful things you can do, as an ordinary rider. It's there whenever I want it and it makes maintenance so much easier. When I go traveling I'm fairly sure that its advantages will outweigh literally!) its disadvantages. The less I have to carry by way of loose tools, the happier I'll be. If I can think of a dual use for the centre stand, I'll let you know.

This If I am out and about in Australia, there is a good chance you will be a looooonng way from anywhere and anything that makes changing tyres/repairs easier is a Good Thing.

The SW-Motech stands go for the equivaltent of about 200euros over here

I am looking to put a center stand on my 85 model xt600. I see sw motech list one for 90 to 94 models. It looks like the stand mounts to the frame where the rear suspension linkage attaches is this correct. If so the 85 model and 90 models use the same bolt so should be able to fit. Can someone give me the overall hight of the stand. I have asked the Australian supplier and was unable to give me this detail. I may have to modify the spring mount but I should be able to do something. If anyone has already tried and Im wasting my time would appreciate knowing. Thanks Ernie.
