Smile Women to Women Empowerment Project-Africa

I've created a Womens Project for my African travels. 'SheWings'.
(We are starting from Morocco in December 2017)

My plan has been, to make sanitary pads and provide toolkits for women I meet in rural places as we travel overland.
I'm going to provide a template, scissors, needles, thread and fabric so that where there is a need; I can assist the women in remote places how to make them and provide the tools. Not charity; empowerment.

I have a groundswell of women in Australia who have stepped up to make this project happen and I now have almost have everything I need to take to Africa.

The Articles I have read about Africa have reinforced a great need for women in many parts of Africa. Thousands of young women don't go to school for a week out of every month due to their moon blood and not having enough resources or money to buy pads.

My partner, Allen and I will be travelling in a green GAZ 66, Russian truck and I would love to meet other women along the way who would like to assist with the implementation of these spontaneous 'workshops'. I am also looking for contacts, so any assistance would be appreciated.

I commend your enthusiasm and initiative. I'm a bit curious how you concluded that this would be a good project, filling a need, welcomed by local women. I'm not criticizing in any way–it's just that I don't see any mention of this aspect. and Africa is sometimes humbling.

Research

Research is how I found the need for womens sanitary pads. The idea is to teach and assist...not charity.
Just type in 'Sanitary pads in Africa' OR 'what do women use in Africa for menstruation?' and you will read, as I did that many women have been using leaves to absorb their blood.......many have nothing. So in answer to your question? Research!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
