I reckon you sold the best option a while ago. The 1100GS build quality is much better than the 1150. I have had an 1100 for several years and it is the best bike I have owned in 35 years of biking. I also own an 1150R and although the extra gear is nice on the faster roads it doesn`t make up for the less `solid` feel of the 1100.
Incidently, I have also owned the steamer Tiger. It was OK on tarmac once I sorted out the ergonomics with risers and Renthal Dakar bars but I wouldn`t want to take it anywhere near loose or muddy surfaces. Way higher seat and centre of gravity! The dive from the forks was monumental as well.
