Well its badged as a «Middleweight Adventure Sport» and comes with 17’ cast wheels but as ADV-Pulse writes:

« We can’t help but think about where this new platform might be going in the future though. With the popularity of the Yamaha Tenere 700, the impending release of the new Aprilia Tuareg 660, along with KTM’s plans for a 490 Adventure, it will be interesting to see if Triumph develops a spoked-wheel version of this bike with the off-road treatment of its “Tiger Rally” models»

So IF this model later will be developed to a more «overlanding friendly» - what are youre thoughts?

Blimey, 10,000 rpm plus to make 80bhp. Sounds like it's going to be a relaxing ride as you scream your way down the Atlantic route (or your remote road of choice). It'll get the adrenalin going though as you head for Starbucks.

There's a discussion below about whether a 70's 400 Honda is a sensible bike for a trip from Italy to the 'Stans and one of the downsides I mentioned is having the engine (redlined at 10,500rpm) howling away below you does wear you out. And here we are with a modern design doing exactly the same. Maybe a triple doesn't have quite the same Hoover like characteristic as a four but at first sight it looks more urban adventure than long distance candidate. I'd certainly look more closely at it though than I would at the Hardly ADV bike that came out a while back.

As a travel bike, not worth a second look IMHO.

As the modern fashion, basically the VFR800 replacement for weekend riders who might get a fortnight in Spain, it looks fun. Pricing would decide for me, Triumph do good value loss leaders one minute then switch to "Premium brand" mode and you find they want a grand more for a Tracer with a different badge.

For me the "ADV" tag has become meaningless. You'd no more take a one of these to Africa than you would have a Guzzi Quota in the 90's, or enter a VFR in the TT. These are road bikes the marketing people have labelled as "Aspirational" or some such rubbish. Enjoy them for what they are.

I am more intrigued by their intent to enter the motocross and enduro fields, but such bikes would equally be unsuited to long distance travel I suspect ;-)

This socalled Adventure Sport model is for sure a roadbike. The thing is that from what I remember there has been rumours about a decent travel/offroad machine with this engine. In a detuned state of course. The good thing about the triples is that they have a very linear powrerband throughout the whole rpm-range. Which is much different than other bikes such as the KTM 390ADV, the WR250, Versys 300 etc - that ONLY have power high up in the rev range.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
